Obituary of Raj GOVINDARAJAN

 

Dr. J. (Raj) GOVINDARAJAN

(1940-2023)

 

Passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener on Monday 27 November 2023 aged 83 years old.

 

Beloved husband of 52 years to Radha, loving father to son Bobby and his wife Shefali, and devoted grandfather to their children Linus and Hazel. Survived by his older brother J. Sundarajan, his younger brother J. Swaminathan, and their respective families.

 

Dr. Govindarajan was originally a Physicist and later a Computer Science specialist who enjoyed successful careers as a Professor and Administrator at the University of Western Ontario, University of Northern British Columbia and Wilfrid Laurier University, where he eventually retired.

 

Raj was self-driven and had a strong work ethic. He loved traveling to spend time with his friends and family, exploring new cities and their cultures and even completed his Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Israel. He was an avid reader, enjoyed sports, took pride in his seasonally up-to-date garden and a classical music aficionado, boasting a collection containing hundreds of classical works.

 

Most of all, Raj loved supporting his family unconditionally and had a heart and passion for helping people. In recent years, he was a regular volunteer at the Food Bank of Waterloo Region and served on the Board of Nota Bene Players & Singers, an organization dear to his heart.

 

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Hygate on Lexington for their exceptional care during this difficult time.

 

A private family service and cremation was held on 1 December 2023 at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo.
