It is with gratitude and love that I remember Bob Janzen and his life partner, Linda. I was first introduced to Jazz and Fats at "the missing peece" at Conrad Grebel College, University of Waterloo, in the early 70s. Little did I know that both would remain in my circle of friends for some 50 years and counting. I first heard the now infamous Alice's Restaurant, sung by Jazz at "the missing peece." To this day I think of Bob as easy, relaxed and reassuring. Over the years Bob and Linda welcomed me into their home to share festive occasions with the Janzen family. Their combined warmth and generosity provided a safe, relaxing harbour to me and I suspect to so many more. Bob will be deeply missed.

Our heartfelt condolences to Linda, Ben and Zoe, their families, the extended family, and Bob and Linda’s friends. The outpouring of support we have seen during these past weeks attests to the lovely human he was and to the life and community he and Linda built. We have been their neighbours and grew to be friends since we begun sharing a driveway over 20 years ago. Early on we developed an affection for the put-put sounds of Bob’s old Mercedes that signaled not only the start of his day but ours too. The sight of him hopping like a young gazelle on our shared garage roof to clear the leaves was a sight to behold-repeatedly. The Hootenanny, which showed the funny, up for anything, side of Bob was a wonderful introduction for us to his world of friends, music and pure joy. We valued the more serious and thoughtful talks we each had with him, about life, illness, death, books, respective roots, the state of the world and our much-loved grandkids. We enjoyed the many gatherings at our homes, part of the easy back and forth between the four of us. It is hard to summarize what we will miss most about Bob, so let’s just say we WILL miss him very much and are so grateful to have known him. He and Linda have enriched our lives in so many ways.
Rest well, dear friend.
Maaike and Roy

Our condolences. We will miss Bob's gentle humour and calm. Part of the intensely unserious Sunday bike club, he would always glide pass on the hills, untroubled by gravity. Graham and Pauline
