Uncle Orville was cute - when we were little, I would have been about 6 and my siblings were from 3 to 11- he would come to our house because my Aunt Stella lived there some of the time - so he would come up when he was dating her, and he always brought his guitar. When he and Aunt Stella would hang out in the living room and trying to get some quiet time (my mom made us stay in the kitchen with her) but we would sneak into the living room and hide behind the long curtains so we could see them "smooching" as my Uncle Orville called it - of course we thought we were totally invisible and they didnt see us hiding in behind the curtain. They would sneak a smooch and we would giggle - then we were "found out". Uncle Orville would impishly call us out and then he would play the guitar for us. We would all pick our favorite song and he never failed to play the one we wanted even it it was on repeat such as "boil the cabbage down".
Many years later Uncle Orville came to visit me in my current home up north (about 20 years ago) and man he could still play that guitar and not only that - we had a few muscian friends over that time and they all said they never met anyone anyone ever that had such a repetoire of songs - maybe over 200. He could play anything.
When I went to visit him in Waterloo he loved to talk about society and values and how things are changing and what to make of things. I believe he was a true philosopher and that made his faith so much stronger because he observed things and saw solutions in faith. I really will miss him and it is so sad I wont get to visit with him here again - but the other day i was stopped at a stop light and I turned to look at the person in the next car over and believe it or not - that person had Uncle Orvilles side profile. It made me smile so much. I know for certain Uncle Orville is in heaven and I believe he still has an impish grin when he thinks of what he will be up to next. Love from your niece Marguerite
