Obituary of Joan Margaret Gatcke

Joan Margaret Gatcke passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2024 at the age of 74 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Joan was a graduate nurse from St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener in 1971 (from the 2+1 program). Many thanks to Shelley O’Keeffe for helping Joan achieve her goal of being a proud Walmart Associate until her final days. Joan enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the Rockway Lawn Bowling Club in her early years, as well as a current member of Trillium United Church. She also found happiness in her final home in Woodstock, among her Peers Place family. Joan loved her animals, including rabbits, dogs, birds, and many other small creatures, especially her dearly beloved companion of 12 years, Bella.

Joan was predeceased by her son Timothy in infancy, son Kevin Brenner, parents William and Inez Gatcke, and her sisters Phyllis Blomstrom and Patricia Gatcke. 

Joan is survived by her son Andrew Brenner (Jessica) and their children Julia, Sophia, Lydia, and Andrew; daughter Donna Gilbert (Shawn) and their daughter Zoe; daughter Sarah Whyte (Anthony) and their children Kevin and Jolynn; sister Lynn Nardari and her children Jason and Amanda-Jo; sister Susan Gatcke and her son Matthew; and her late sister Phyllis’ children Billy and Karen.

Friends and relatives are invited to a Visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The Funeral Service will be held at Trillium United Church, 450 King St. E, Cambridge on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener after the reception.
