Passed away peacefully at St Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at the age of 78.
Loving wife of Howard B. Martin, married for 56 years.
Predeceased by her parents Lovina (nee Hintz) and Elias Eby Martin. Brother Walter Martin, and niece Brenda (nee Martin) Black and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Survived by nephews Keith Martin and Darrell Martin, nieces Karen (nee Martin) Gougeon and Beverly (nee Martin) Pollard, sister-in-law Edith Martin, great-nephews Adam Martin, Andrew Martin, Nick Black, David and Elias, and great-nieces Jackie Mulligan and Erica Black.
Doris attended Elmira High School through grade 10, then on to the Ontario Business College in Kitchener. Her first job was in an office position with Birks Jewelry for 5 years. The next two years she worked as secretary for Ratz Lumber Co., Waterloo, then two years with Conklin Lumber Co. Kitchener. She then worked with developmentally challenged children for one year at the former Martin’s Public School, Waterloo. Because of her love of children, she obtained a position with Waterloo Collegiate Institute in the Student Activity Office where she was employed for 30 years until her retirement. The "Doris Martin Student Activities Appreciation Award" is presented annually at WCI to recognize a student who has made an outstanding contribution to Student Activities.
Doris loved people and she loved the Lord. She willingly served as an Elder for a period in the local Presbyterian Church and later for a term at Trinity Evangelical Missionary Church.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Trinity Missionary Church, 330 Conservation Dr., Waterloo on Wednesday September 4, 2024 at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Cerena Browne officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service.
