Obituary of Dr. Radha Govindarajan
Dr. Radha Govindarajan
1942-2024
Passed away peacefully at Hospice Waterloo Region, Waterloo on Monday December 30th, 2024 aged 82 years old.
Beloved wife of 52 years to her late husband Raj, loving mother to son Bobby and his wife Shefali, and devoted grandmother to their children Linus and Hazel. Survived by her older sister, Vimala Ramasubramanian.
Dr. Govindarajan was originally a theoretical Physicist and later worked as a Geophysicist who worked at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Northern British Columbia.
From an early age, Radha was always known for her brilliance and intellect achieving top grades and the first ranking across all levels of education. While academics always came easy to her, Radha embraced Canadian culture and loved exploring new activities and endeavours, finding passion in watching and following ice hockey and tennis. She discovered all forms of music and took a particular interest in Western classical music, motivating her to study piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music in London and achieving First Class Honours in her piano examination. She loved languages and visiting her family in India and the U.K., was an amazing cook and always found time to read her mystery novels.
Most of all, Radha loved supporting her family unconditionally and had a heart and passion for helping her friends and people in general. Her dedication towards her son, his wife and her grandchildren was never-ending. Her belief in honesty and integrity, desire to treat people well and general commitment to do the right thing was what embodied Radha. For example, a number of years ago, Radha learnt sign language and braille to help individuals complete their continuing education exams and take them individually grocery shopping. She will be dearly missed by all.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Hygate on Lexington and more recently for all the staff at Hospice Waterloo Region for their exceptional care during this difficult time.
A private service and cremation will be held on January 9th, 2025 at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo.
