I first met Dave my first year of teaching at UW. He and I shared the same passion for encouraging students to get involved in their community. I had always meant to ask him for a lesson in how to play bridge - I hear he was quite the bridge player. My deepest sympathies to Dave's family.

Dave was the first University of Waterloo professor I spoke to when I was considering as a student transferring from McMaster into the PAS program at Waterloo in the late 80s. He invited me to come to campus for a visit. When I arrived, he spent virtually half a day showing me around campus and talking to me about the program. His enthusiasm and down to earth friendly demeanor were the deciding factor in what I think was a pivotal decision in my life. He was definitely one of the most liked professors for our program and never forgot a name. I saw Dave 2 weeks ago at the WWCAA dinner and he hadn't changed a bit. Always the jovial, likeable personality. Very sad to hear of his passing.

I have known David for years, but this past year we worked on three projects together.His energy was incredible, and especially his passion for teaching students how to be focused on the community good. I had the opportunity to first learn from Dave in the classroom at the U of Windsor about the Accounting and Auditing Profession. To the Carter Family: I knew Professor Carter for a mere five weeks, but he impacted my life. He was always so warm and welcoming, willing to help out and a wonderful professor.
