Receiving the email reminding us that John has been gone for one year this week, is hard to believe. Such as great guy!! Although we only had the occasional chats over the last years, prior to that he was our next door neighbour on Norman Street. From the 1st day we moved in, he was standing on his front lawn welcoming us to the neighbourhood. I never saw John without a smile on his face! He would brighten your day whenever you saw him. I miss running into him with Riley and Will at Marbles, DQ, Waterloo Square, whereever, we would always have a chat, catch up on the kids etc. Missing him!

Great Celebration yesterday John and family as we all found comfort with knowing we had a chance to share some great times together. My thoughts and prayers go to out to your family and friends as they move forward remembering all you shared with them. Personally I thank you for dropping in last Fall and encouraging me to get a second opinion with respect to my own Prostate Cancer which ironically we had both been diagnosed with close to the same time. Your suggestion moved me to get the help I needed to successfully treat my cancer. Thanks so much! Love Tommy Litwiller and Dianne Beresford(fellow student-Empire Public School)

I'm an old colleague of John's from his travel industry days. We worked together at SkyLark and at Paramount Holidays. I last saw John a couple of years ago at our friend Vanessa's home at Blue Mountain where we had such a fun weekend full of laughter. I have such fond memories of working with John-I will never forget his sense of humour and how he always managed to crack jokes at the most inopportune times. I recently heard Sade singing "Smooth Operator" and recalled how John turned it into "Tour Operator". When I shared the sad news of John's passing to many of our ex-colleagues from those days, not only did I reconnect with people I had not seen in years but they also shared their happy memories of John from his "gravity boots" to fun times they had had. My sincere condolences to the family at this sad time. He will live on in our hearts and memories. Kind regards, Linda and Doug Wright

John - You will be forever missed! You were more than a great client....both as a radio advertiser, in real estate and as a friend. We enjoyed time spent with you as a travel companion, in business and socially. Your enthusiasm, positive outlook and sense of humour made every visit a great experience. With sad hearts we realize we will only hear your laughter in miles of memories. I'll miss you calling me 'Ruthless'! Just writing this brought tears to our eyes and lumps in our throats. I had the great pleasure of spending a few years with John at Ryerson. Those memories are definitely some of the best ever, and John was truly one who could see and enjoy all those best ever moments and recognize them as just that. It was a short period of time but the joys in those memories are long! John will truly be missed! Lezlie “Smeeth”

Like my sister, jill, I knew John (Cat) when he lived at the Beck St. "farm" with his pals, all of whom i remember well. We didn't keep in touch after I moved out to B.C., but I do have fond memories of John from Beck st. and at Mama Trotts' at Grand Bend. One thing that Cat always did that endeared me to him (and I have continued to quote him throughout my life), is upon exiting the shower or bath he would announce in a self-assured way to all present that, "It's fun to be clean." My heart goes out to John's family, friends and coworkers, and hope you find whatever ease there might be in the face of losing John. Take care, Sally.

I knew John when we were young adults...even though we did not keep in touch, I have great memories of the times we spent on Beck Street and at Grand Bend. He always brought a smile to my face. The Dragonfly Once, in a little pond, in the muddy water under the lily pads, there lived a little water beetle in a community of water beetles. They lived a simple and comfortable life in the pond with few disturbances and interruptions. Once in a while, sadness would come to the community when one of their fellow beetles would climb the stem of a lily pad and would never be seen again. They knew when this happened; their friend was dead, gone forever. Then, one day, one little water beetle felt an irresistible urge to climb up that stem. However, he was determined that he would not leave forever. He would come back and tell his friends what he had found at the top. When he reached the top and climbed out of the water onto the surface of the lily pad, he was so tired, and the sun felt so warm, that he decided he must take a nap. As he slept, his body changed and when he woke up, he had turned into a beautiful blue-tailed dragonfly with broad wings and a slender body designed for flying. So, fly he did! And, as he soared he saw the beauty of a whole new world and a far superior way of life to what he had never known existed. Then he remembered his beetle friends and how they were thinking by now he was dead. He wanted to go back to tell them, and explain to them that he was now more alive than he had ever been before. His life had been fulfilled rather than ended. But, his new body would not go down into the water. He could not get back to tell his friends the good news. Then he understood that their time would come, when they, too, would know what he now knew. So, he raised his wings and flew off into his joyous new life!

I always found John to be friendly, intellegent and kind, with a good sense of humour. He was energetic, creative and well balanced. I've known John since the mid 60's when we used to side walk surf down the hill on Alexander Ave. We both loved music and good fun. I will truely miss him. Good bye my friend.

A neighbour for only a short time but he left lasting warm memories. A lovely caring guy who would welcome you into his home, would blow your snow or just join you on the porch for some great conversation. I liked John very much and was always impressed how lovingly he spoke of his family. He will be missed by many....

We truly enjoyed our business with John. John stood apart as he was always asking the most thought provoking and intelligent questions. He truly cared, and had great passion when it came to the products he sold, and in his quest to help people with their pursuits in wellness. We can sincerely say that John made a positive difference in our business. He will be sorely missed.

Great picture of John. He did have a knack for looking very calm even when things weren't so calm. I know he felt very lucky to be able to be at home and spend his last days in a place he loved and with people he loved. That is a great gift that you gave him. Very proud of his boys. I hope there is a grat big golf course up there somewhere John.

I knew John for almost 50 years and he was the best man at my wedding. Even when John was dealing with his own serious issues he used to call me every Friday evening to cheer me up after my wife died from cancer. I told him that the weekends were lonely and depressing with nothing to do. That was John, always thinking of others even when his own health was precarious. Life will not be as interesting or humorous but I have lots of amazing memories.
