I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Peter, Rosemary and the rest of the Berndt family. After knowing Horst for a few years, it feels as I have known him for a life time. I looked forward to our visits, always knowing that I would come home with some kind of new information. Whether it was the latest price on apples at the market, how to grow beautiful cosmos or keeping up to date on the latest world news, Horst seemed to take pride in the fact that he had a “little tip” for me every time. He commented many times how grateful he was to have the opportunity to move to Waterloo. He enjoyed the closeness he had with you and looked forward to his phone calls from California and BC every week. It was an honor to get to know Horst. My Wednesday afternoons will not be the same.

My heart goes out to the entire Berndt family. Horst was such a "person of peace" for me; part of the image of Christ as our rock. He was always ready with a firm grip and a kind word for me, especially after my wife died. I enjoyed hearing his stories and truly wish I wasn't always feeling so rushed on Sunday mornings when we would chat. I will miss his warm and welcoming presence and I know that I will never look at the "Biographies" corner of the church library without picturing him standing there. May Peter, Rosemary, Victoria, Abigail and the rest of the Berndt clan know Gods peace and comfort in the days ahead, knowing that Horst has truly gone to be where his heart most desired to go.
