Phil, Tom, Izumi, Ben and Kiyomi - we are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of your father/grandfather and our dear friend Rod. Our friendship with Rod and Sue began in university days and as young marrieds in Pembroke/Petawawa we greatly admired how your Dad and Mum delighted in the joys and challenges of regimental life and starting their family. Through all the years since, though separated by distance, we feel blessed to have been able to stay close in spirit. We are truly sorry we could not travel to be with you now - we send big hugs.

Rod and I were part of a small, closely-knit group of friends at Paris District High School. We were also part of the Paris Armouries gang in 169 Battery, 56 Fd Regt. I lost direct contact with Rod after we both went into the Army, he into the Artillery and me into the Armoured Corps. However, through mutual friends we kept track of each other during our careers. Rod was a close friend as a teenager and I will always remember his impish, quick smile that lightened up many moments. My sincerest sympathy to his family. God bless you, Rod.

I had the privilege of serving with Rod in Germany in 1985. Rod was a man's man, a soldier's soldier and an officer's officer. He was kind, generous and quick to laugh. I looked up to him and know that he was highly respected and liked by all ranks. I am proud to have been his friend and I extend to his family my deepest sympathy on his passing. They don't make them like Rod Kyle anymore.

Rod has been a colleague and friend since he joined Raytheon Canada. We worked on ATC radar projects for Australia, Algeria, Oman and numerous projects for NavCanada. We enjoyed the tough ones which were solved with a mixture of diplomacy and technical skill. He was a team leader who knew when to bring out the Scotch. He was also a kind and considerate person who maintained his cool even when he couldn't operate his Blackberry anymore. He was complimentary of his care at St Marys & Grand River. Our condolences to Phil, Tom, Izumi and family for the loss of a great person, father & brother.
