Cecil, Dorothy and the rest of the McLaughlin family have been our cottage neighbours for many many years. Cecil was the kind of guy who was always happy to have a chat and was always very interested in our lives. One summer, in our younger years, Dave and I decided to have all of our university friends up for a May 24th long weekend party. It did not disappoint! We had the kind of party everyone is still talking about!! The cottage neighbour to our left was not very happy with us and came over to let us know about it. The next morning we went sheepishly over to Cecil and Dorothy to apologize for the noise we made the night before. Cecil just smiled and said "I didn't hear a thing. Don't worry about it, it's just great to see you kids having such a fun time". By the look on her face, I'm not sure Dorothy agreed with him.. she might even have mentioned something about Cecil's poor hearing.. Nevertheless, from that Victoria Day to the next, there was a silent long standing agreement between Cecil and the gang that we were going to let loose on Victoria Day weekend, and not worry about the consequences!
We will all miss you Cecil.

We are sorry for your loss. As we are all too familiar, nothing can fully prepare us for the loss of a father but the knowledge of a life well spent is a great comfort. I was recently remembering the many Christmas days that we spent enjoying fine McLaughlin hospitality. Memories of Uncle Cec's humour and his "Waterloo Specials" will forever bring me a smile. I pray that happy memories of Uncle Cecil will bring you comfort also.

We have so enjoyed chatting, visiting and laughing with Cecil and all the McLaughlin's over the years at the cottage on Lake Huron. He will always be part of our family's happy cottage memories.
