Obituary of George Rothwell
Died peacefully, at twilight on February 14, 2013 at the age of 86, surrounded by his children, at Pinehaven Nursing Home in Waterloo. George was a master tradesman and builder, and co-founder of Tamroth Construction and Tampa Hall Limited. He was born in Arthur Township in North Wellington County on January 20, 1927. He resided in Kitchener from the age of seven, and raised his family and worked there until he and his wife Shirley (2008) returned to Arthur Township in 1981, where they operated the family farm located one concession from the home George was born in.
George defined himself by his work, his family, his flower gardens and forest plantings, his 8mm family movies, his cooking and the history books that he read. He will be especially remembered by friends and family for the annual New Years parties celebrated on Duchess Avenue during the fifties, sixties and seventies, where his Sinatra, Lombardo and Goodman records were the centerpiece of the evenings' gaiety.
George is survived by his children, Terry (Sandy), Deb (Jim) Krulicki, Kim (Harold) Baker and Jordan (Donalee). Also survived by his son-in-law Brent DeMeuleneare; siblings June (Gregg), John, Ron and Sharon (Bernard), eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife Shirley (Burkholder), daughter Pamela DeMeuleneare, son Jay, parents Percy and Kathleen Rothwell and brother Herbert.
Special thanks are extended by the family to all of the staff at Pinehaven Nursing Home. Their work was second-to-none; both professional and compassionate. Every visit to Dad was a good one, and that was because of the consistently good physical and spiritual care he got from the workers at Pinehaven.
Thanks also to Dr. Linda Hondabrata of Cambridge for her kindness and attention to detail in accurately diagnosing Dad's ailments and for explaining these to him in such a caring way.
Friends and relatives are invited to share memories of George during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 54 Queen St. N, Kitchener, on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 2 pm. Private family committal service will take place at a later date.
