Obituary of Donald Geisel

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at St. Mary's Hospital on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the age of 75 years. Don is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth "Betty" of 51 years, children Dean (Kathy), Debbie (Scott) Thomas, Derek (Maureen), Darryl (Tina). Cherished Grandpa to Stephanie Thomas (Zack) and beloved Papa to Candice and Colby Geisel, and Justin and Aiden Geisel. Survived by his sisters Jean (Gord) Murray and Barb (Jerry) Saunders. Dear brother in law to Carl and Dorothy Rumig, Ron and Linda Rumig, Ray and Liz Rumig, Carol and Bill Ransom, Brenda and John Kempel. Sister-in-law Barb Rumig, brother-in-law Richard Goldbeck and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Alfred and Elvira Geisel, In-laws Cornelius and Matlida Rumig, Joe and Dorothy Yosurack, Cliff and Helen Bolduc, Louis Rumig, and Pat Goldbeck. Also by nephews Grant Rumig, Johnny Yosurack and Dale Murray. Don was a long standing employee of Superior Box and Koch Transport until his retirement in 2000. He also enjoyed coaching minor sports hockey, baseball and softball teams in Waterloo and acting GM for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays from his arm chair. He played for both the Waterloo Siskins and Waterloo Chippers hockey teams and enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting activities. Friends are invited to share their memories of Don with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 7-9 pm and Wednesday, June 19, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Parish Prayers will be held Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Louis RC Church, 53 Allen Street East, Waterloo, on Thursday, June 20, at 10:30am with the Rev. Jim Valk, CR as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo. Reception will be held at the Parish Hall of the Church. The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Ward and her staff, CCAC and the staff on the 5th floor at St. Mary's Hospital.
