I met Kathleen on my sporadic visits to Waterloo where we connected through mutual friends. She made an immediate and wonderful impression! I will miss her warmth, sense of humour and lively intelligence. My heart goes out to family, friends and everyone who knew her.

I had the good fortune to see Kathleen in June, on a day that her illness was giving her some reprieve. It was lovely to see that despite everything, she was witty, sharp and so generous in spirit! I told Elaine a few weeks ago that I got a wooden K for my office--it will be a reminder for me to live fiercely and with a brave heart, like Kathleen did. The Corbett Family sends its most heartfelt condolences to Elaine, Mike, Mel, Don, Drew, Richard and all the extended family. What an incredible spirit Kathleen shared with the world. Tough as nails balanced with deep compassion and thoughtfulness. I am honoured to have had the time I had to spend in her presence and to get to know her, even that little bit. As an old teen friend of Kath's, I am deeply saddened to hear of her passing. Kathleen (Kath) and I were friends when she lived in Ottawa with her dad and brother in Forest Ridge before our life paths took us in different directions. The picture attached is of the two of us in October 1980.
I have fond memories of times spent with Kath and Drew playing pool and listening to music in their basement. I also recall the three of us conducting an "Artsy" photo shoot in the cemetery adjacent to where we lived! Ha! Other great memories include time spent with Kath and Mel at Mel's apartment on 5th Ave - painting landscapes on the bathroom door or hitching a ride to Toronto to attend the CNE because the Ottawa EX just wasn't good enough! Some of my best & most fun teenage adventures were with Kath. I can hear her laugh in my head and my heart as I write this. Melanie and Drew - my heart goes out to both of you.
I am so happy to read of her success in life. I remember encouraging her to go to high school with me, only to have her drop out soon after starting. I recall being so frustrated with her as she was one of the smartest & brightest people I knew. I should have known she would accomplish great things in her own way and own time. Mike, I am so glad to learn that she found a wonderful partner in life - your blog not only chronicles her terrible illness but it also tells a story of your unyielding support and love. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
To her mom Elaine, I hold fond memories of visiting you & little Don with Kath too. I am so very sorry for your loss of a beautiful daughter. As a mother now myself I know our greatest hope for our children in life is for them to love and be loved. After reading of Kathleen's life, it is clear it was rich in both.
I am sorry to have missed the opportunity to be part of her adult world, Rest peacefully old friend.

We first met Kathleen, Mike and Denby in our neighbourhood while out walking our dogs. What a friendly trio! Over the years we would cross paths and it was always a pleasure to meet. Orville came later and fit right in with his happy-go-lucky personality. Kathleen was always smiling, bubbly and positive... even after her diagnosis. She would always take the time for a chat and always left you feeling better that you'd seen her. Kathleen will be missed.
