It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Victor, on Sunday, September 1, 2013. Vic was 75 years old. In 1957 he married Carolyn Brohman. He was a devoted husband and champion to Carolyn, for whom he cared for the past 20 years, after she had a debilitating stroke in 1993. He is survived by his four children—Leisa Desmoulins (Ron), Lynne Holmberg (Mark), Maria Giffen (James), and, Jon Starchuk (Jenny Capes). He was a loving grandfather to his six grandchildren—Max, Mose, and Lily Desmoulins; Kristian Holmberg; and, Sam and Emelia Giffen. He never missed a birthday, right up until his final illness. Vic was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Helen (Erbach), sisters Pauline (Giesler) and Kay (Haliskie), and, brother Roy Starchuk. He is survived by his two younger brothers, Elmer and Eugene. Vic was born in 1937 in Smokey Lake, Alberta. His family moved to the Kitchener Waterloo area in 1952, where he remained until his death. An accomplished designer, Vic worked for Horton & Ball Architects until 1971, when he left to form his own design and project management firm, Vic Starchuk and Associates. Vic designed and built many municipal and commercial facilities as well as his own home in Waterloo region. Vic sailed and skied for many years.
