Obituary of Larry Carter

Passed away peacefully on October 6, 2013, at the age of 71 with family by his side. Predeceased by his wife and best friend of 45 years, Dorothy (2012). Survived by his children: Kelley Jacobs (Shane) of Sebringville, Krista Williams (Scott) of Victoria B.C., Bryce Carter (Arden) of Port Credit. Devoted and much loved Grandpa to: Ryley and Mackenna Jacobs, Mayla and Calista Williams Nicholas Carter. Survived by sisters: Gloria (late Ron) Laythorpe of Guelph Judy (Norm) Laythorpe of Vernon B.C. Also survived by his dear Aunt Shirley Carter of Guelph, and brothers and sisters in-law: Paul Kraemer (Mary) of Maryhill, Karen Dietrich (Tom) of St. Clements, Mike Kraemer (Marianne) of Elmira, Mark Kraemer (Cathie) of Port Elgin, Jane Newman (Doug) of Elora Dearly loved by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Parents Joseph M. Carter (2003), and Jean A. Carter (1995). Larry completed his undergraduate studies at Wilfrid Laurier University and later received his Ontario Teaching Diploma. After some years of teaching he completed his Masters of Education from University of Toronto. Larry was a highly respected teacher and principal for 35 years with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. After retirement, Larry continued to mentor student teachers with his work through D'Youville College, and The University of Western Ontario. He also spent time bookkeeping for his daughters Optometry business. Over the years, Larry both inspired and touched the lives of many students and staff. Not only was Larry a teacher, he loved being a student. A life long learner at heart, his final course was in July 2013 as he worked towards his motorcycle license. Larry shared a passion for travel and adventure, and this was evident from the many places and countries he explored together with Dorothy. Larry was always giving and cherished his many friendships. His vibrant personality and energy was loved, and will be missed by all of those he touched. He was a beacon of optimism, faith, love, and a guiding light to his family. He truly inspired others and passes that challenge on. He's left behind a beautiful legacy of children and grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, ON, on Tuesday Oct 8th from 7-9pm and, Wednesday October 9th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Parish prayers will be offered at 8:45 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday October 10th, 2pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 173 Lourdes Street, Waterloo, ON, with Msgr. Edward Sheridan as Celebrant. Reception will immediately follow in the Church hall. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date at Williamsburg Cemetery, Kitchener, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Lourdes, or a charity of ones choice.
