Sorry for the very late reply but I just happened upon his obit. I was an M.Sc. student of Dr. Mackay in 1982-84. He was a kind supervisor who allowed us to explore chemistry. I remember meals over at his house with his family. Good times. I am now a UBC chemistry prof and remember my time with him with pleasure.

I felt privileged to meet Uncle Donnie for the first time in 40 years and will

Prof MacKay first inspired me with his wonderful teaching when I was undergraduate at Waterloo in the late 1980s. I am glad to have known him also when I returned to the Chemistry department years later, and I feel lucky to have been graced his thoughtfulness and wisdom.
