Obituary of Clyde Gilmour

Gilmour, Clyde The night I met Clyde, 35 years ago, was the night I met my soulmate. Clyde lived his life to the fullest with laughter, music, compassion, strength, and of course love. He was happiest when he was with his girls. Clyde was surrounded by women his whole life, but was the most masculine man I knew. He said he was forced to participate in home spa days but willingly wore face masks and underwent pedicures; because he was with his girls. Clyde was a wonderful father and spent as many hours as he could playing with Carrie and creating an inseparable bond. Clyde's love of music is well known to many. He was a rock and roll drummer for many bands including The Rooks and The Thanes. His epic jam sessions usually resulted in neighbours popping in to listen and dance. Carrie's birthday parties were spent singing and dancing to Clyde drumming. Our family loved impromptu dance parties around the centre island of our kitchen. Clyde would often join in, but was content to laugh and watch his girls and friends dance it up. Clyde was a clean freak and no one could detail the inside or outside of our home better than him. He was extremely house proud and helped build our backyard garden. He used his construction skills to help build the pillars which represent the three of us. Shortly after he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma 3 years ago, our garden was featured in Grand magazine. The picture gracing this obituary was part of the photo shoot from that day. Clyde had many opinions which he liked to share with everyone in letters to the editor. In 2006 he was proud to be a member of The Record community editorial board where his opinions were encouraged, and often resulted in exciting discussions. Clyde had many skills including construction labourer, surveyor, webmaster, and of course a social worker for the Region of Waterloo Social Services department for 29 years, until he retired in 2002. Clyde used his compassion, knowledge, and listening skills, to help those in need. Clyde loved to walk, and he and Barbara would spend hours walking and talking, solving all the world's problems; heated political discussions were the norm. Clyde was the centre of our world and he created a home full of love, laughter, and music. Clyde is survived by his beautiful wife and daughter Barbara and Carrie. Clyde will be missed by his sister Vikki Tait (James) and nieces Jillian, Jennifer, Suzanne and families. He was predeceased by his father Earl, in 1983 and his mother Marjorie, in 2006. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. MacEachern, Dr. Jakda, Dr. Ward and her palliative care team, Guy Wellhauser and all the nursing staff of Grand River and St. Mary's Hospitals. The Gilmour Girls will be holding a Celebration of Clyde's Life at a later date. Rock on. Condolences for the family and donations to Grand River Regional Cancer Centre may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S. Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445. C.B.C.
