Obituary of Karl Kaufman

Karl Henry Kaufman, 71, passed away suddenly on Wednesday October 14, 2015, while traveling in Louisville, Kentucky. Beloved husband of Judy (nee Harvey) for 49 years. Proud and loving dad of Sarah (Daniel) Young and David (Halina) Kaufman. He was the adored "Papa" of Sydney, Owen, Kate, Isabella, and William. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Karl will be fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law, Marlene and Joan Kaufman, brother-in-law, Tom (Sylvia) Harvey and their families. Karl was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Grace (nee McCaslin) Kaufman; and brothers, Alvin, Ken, and Glenn. Karl was born and raised in Hanover, Ontario and joined the Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada in Waterloo in 1964. Over the course of his career, he worked in both Group Life and Health and the Individual Sales Force. Karl served in Sudbury, Hamilton and Toronto before returning to Waterloo in 1981. He retired in 2005 after 40 years with Mutual Life/Clarica/SunLife as Regional Vice-President, Career Sales Force. After retirement, Karl served on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo Region, Waterloo Wellington Autism Services, St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, and Community Support Connections - Meals on Wheels and More. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Youth Symposium presented annually by the Child Witness Center. Karl belonged to the Westmount chapter of Probus and the Retired Business and Professional Men's Club of K-W. Karl's family will receive relatives and friends at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, October 24, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to honour Karl's life will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home's Fireside Room. A private interment will be held at the Hanover Cemetery.
